DAY 7 - 8 August 2009 - Mweka Camp to Moshi

Elevation (approx) 3,080m to 1,630m
Height gain 18m
Height losses 1,468m
Distance 10km
Duration 2 hours
Habitat Rain Forest

So, our last morning on Kilimanjaro.  The adventure is nearly over!  Six days, nearly 6,000 vertical metres climbed and 60km walked and that's it - how odd it all feels.  We breakfasted as usual, then got together with our team to divvy up tips and to be "sung about" to great bursts of laughter - oh, what it would be to understand Swahili and to know what they were saying out this couple from England!

The Coombs on Kili Team - from left to right - Reuben, Thomas, Chacha, Makanja, Tino (Assistant Guide), Gary, Barbara, Fred (Guide), Moses (Cook), Nurdin (Waiter), Petter, Hussein and Samwel (Toilet Crew)

left to right - Reuben Isaac, Thomas Mushi, Chacha Ramadhan, Makanja Taro, Assistant Guide Tino Isreal, Gary, Barbara, Guide Fred Namwandu, Cook Moses Mwasi, Waiter Nurdin Issa, Petter Jastas, Hussein Ally and Samwel Kadege

Following the jovialities we lifted our packs for the last time and headed off with Tino through a damp, dripping, rain forest towards Mweka Gate 1,450m below.  Once again the going was easy and in just 2 hours we emerged at the end of the trail into a clearing crowded with returning teams, vans, busses and people selling everything from t-shirts and other trinkets to beer and offering to clean boots and other kit.

Approaching Mweka GateGuide Fred waiting to collect our certificate

We signed out, collected the golden certificate and waited for Fred and co to sort things out before setting off on the hour drive back to our hotel in Moshi.  At the hotel we said thank you and goodbye to Fred and asked him to pass on our thanks to the rest of the team.  Our Kilimanjaro Expedition was over.
