I Moshi I TunaHAKI |
|
It is the coffee producing centre of Tanzania with vast coffee plantations all around the town and on the slopes of Kilimanjaro itself. Due to the proximity of a coffee roasting factory, the smell of roasting coffee often wafts across the town. Sugar is also important to the region’s economy. The town is well placed near the Kilimanjaro National Park and is often used as a staging point for those planning to climb the mountain. For us it is where our African adventure really began as it was our base before we started the climb, after we returned from it and for a day's rest before we flew back to Europe following our short safari. A useful source of information on Moshi is Kiliweb.com. It provides information on the town, places to stay and eat as well as issues like communication and internet etc. Guide books, like Henry Stedman's trekking guide to Africa's highest mountain also provide invaluable information.
Our base in Moshi will be the Bristol Cottages Hotel situated on the outskirts of the town. According to their website they are "a professionally run hotel situated located in a safe, quiet side-street within walking distance from the centre of town. We offer un-matched comfort and service with no compromise on quality. We have a high level of security to ensure safety for our guests". This all sounds very positive and we'll add comment on our stay in due course.
